Delicious Food
If you are not the type of person who likes fancy restaurants, savoir vivre and waiters filling your glass of water every 5 minutes, then you may appreciate our suggestions for tasty treats in Santorini. On this island you can find everything from the most exclusive restaurants to the most alternative taverns.
Personally, I tried all of the following being under the carefull guidance of Mary who has spent years on the island and can be considered as a local. We had some wonderful dishes, tastes and flavors at the following suggested places:
- At the stunning Amoudi, after our dives under the rock, we sat in the tavern "Kyra Katina", who welcomed us discreetly with a sweet smile. Just above us stood Oia hanging over the caldera.
- In Kamari we visited "Tavern Irini" hold and run by Ms. Fteouria, as they call her.
- Pirgos has a lot to try both fancy and classic. We chose the traditional tavern of the "Kyra Penelope", tucked under the steeple of the church on the way to Kastelli.
- George who is a local, suggested "Metaksi mas" at Ekso Gonia, which eventually we did not visit, but he clearly stated that all locals prefer it, so they probably know best. Try it and tell me if it is good.
- In Kambia, a beach close to Red Beach, we had the classic experience of taverns next to the sea, raised on a rock, with homemade delicacies that the family who run the tavern makes. We licked our fingers clean...
- On Vlychada, just before the boat shelter of Santorini, we have the "Steki tou Psara". As you will taste, the flavors are simplistic, fisherly with the smells of iodine and saltiness.
