In the center of Stemnitsa, this lovely traditional stone village in the heart of the Peloponnese, stands the Faculty of silversmith. Founded in 1976, and the reputed students of the famous craftsmen Lambis Katsoulis and Aristides Vlachogiannis teach at the Faculty.

In the fully equipped laboratory you will meet students hunched over their tools, envisioning, planing and implementing small masterpieces made of metals, stones and natural art. We met and talked with Irene and Danae. We were introduced in their art, they put us to work with copper, to hit with hammers to tinker and to prepare a small clipboard ring, but in our eyes it seemed a little masterpiece since a crude metal ring was lovingly embraced our finger.

The girls are studying there and dream their jewellery creations to be awarded at international jewellery exhibitions as it is with other girls-students of the school. Of course we met the director of the school, Anna, professor of fine arts and she expressed her concern about the future of technical education after the painful educational changes occurring during the recent years. At the same time the sense of hope and love for the art of jewellery was pervasive in the school.

The school is a unique combination. It has a unique environment and a nature stone building that meets art, emotions that rise to the hopes and wishes for the future of young people who attend there.

Visiting the Faculty of silversmith in Stemnitsa was a really unique experience.
