EASY ROUTES FOR EVERYONE

Vradeto-Beloi

One of the best routes because you are going to have the opportunity to admire the spectacular view of the deepest point of the Vikos Gorge, as soon as you arrive at Beloi.

Distance: 2km
Walking time: 1 hour
Path: Z2 with good marking
Period: Spring up to November.
Drinking water: does not exist.
Vegetation: grasslands.
Fauna: bear, golden eagle, Egyptian vulture.
Interesting places: the view of Vikos Gorge.

Dikorfo-Kipoi

Get started from Dikorfo and after you cross the natural beauties of the landscape and the stone bridges of the route you will reach at Kipous.

Distance: 12km
Walking time: 4 hours
Path: O3 with good marking
Period: Spring up to November.
Drinking water: Hard to find.
Vegetation: oak forests.
Fauna: bear, wild boar, fawn.
Interesting places: stone bridges and traditional churches.

Kipoi-Koukouli

Get started from the village Kipoi and along the route you will pass through forests with cedar trees and oak trees and you will also cross the bridge of Lazaridis or Kontodimos and he ladder of Koukouli  in order  to reach your final destination.

Walking time: 1 hour and 30'
Path: Z31 with moderate marking
Period: All year
Drinking water: does not exist.
Vegetation: oak, sprats, cedar trees.
Fauna: wild bear, woodpeckers, hawk, Kestrel.
Interesting places: the Selato or Vikaki gorge, the Lazaridis or Kontodimos Bridge, the ladder of Koukouli (cobbled road built between rocks), the ruins of the Lazaridis mill.

Dilofo-Vitsa

Another magic route since you will cross over the traditional stone bridges and stop at St. John's church where you can enjoy the view of Vikos Gorge.

Walking time: 1 hour and 45'
Path: Z15 with moderate marking
Period: Spring up to November.
Drinking water: hard to find.
Vegetation: oak, sprats, cedar trees.
Fauna: wild bear, woodpeckers.
Interesting places: the small stone bridges.

Elafotopos-Ano Pedina

Get started from Elafotopos but take with you a good map because the marking isn’t good for your final destination at Ano Pedina. As soon as you arrive, don't forget to visit the Monastery of Evangelistria where the Great Master of the genus Neofitos Dukas grew up.

Path: Z5 with non-existent marking
Period: All year
Drinking water: hard to find.
Vegetation: hollies, cedar trees.
Fauna: Egyptian vulture, hawk.
Interesting places: A traditional architecture tap

Kapesovo-Vradeto

Very nice route too, mostly because you will have the chance to climb the ladder of Vradetos which is a gem by itself but also the stone bridges which it passes over.

Walking time: 2 hours
Path: there is no marking
Period: All year
Drinking water: does not exist.
Vegetation: Sprats, cedar trees.
Fauna: Egyptian vulture, Kestrel
Interesting places: the ladder of Vradetos the stone bridges, the traditional churches, the gorge of Mezaria.

Vitsa-Kokori Bridge

Starting from Vitsa you will have the opportunity to cross the ladder of Vitsa and as you will get at the end of the route you will enjoy the stone bridge of Kokoris in which you'll end up.

Walking time: 1 hour and 45'
Path: G9 until you get to Vitsas ladder and then O3
Period: All year
Drinking water: does not exist.
Vegetation: oak, sprats, cedar trees.
Fauna: bear, nocturnal and diurnal birds of prey (Egyptian vulture, Kestrel etc.)
Interesting places: the ladder of Vitsa (cobbled road built between rocks), the bridge of Missios, the Kokoris bridge and the Vikos Gorge.

MODERATE HIKING PATHS

Papigo-Vikos

You go downhill the little Papigo to Vikos Gorge and after you cross it you go to the uphill path to your right in order to reach Vikos. Nature is fantastic again.

Distance: 3 km
Walking time: 2 hours
Path: O3 until you cross the gorge and after the uphill path to the right
Period: May to October

Negades-Tsepelovo

Get started from Negades and after you follow the Z13 path you will be directed at Tsepelovo one of the most beautiful villages in the area. You will cross the stone bridges near Tsepelovo and the beautiful bridge at the narrow gorge of Vikos.

Distance: 7km
Hiking Time: 3 hours and 30'
Path: Z13 with incomplete marking
Period: All year
Drinking water: Hard to find or won’t find at all.
Fauna: Bear wild bear, fawn and hawk.
Interesting places: the oak forests and the coniferous forests of Central Zagori, the stone bridges of Tsepelovo, the gorge Vikaki.

DIFICULT HIKING PATHS FOR THE EXPERIENCED

Papigo or Tsepelovo or Vradeto- Dragon Lake of Tymfis

This path is quite difficult so consult an expert if you are not familiar with long haul routes. The path and the experience will surely reward you as soon as you end up to the only Dragon Lake of Tymfi after you have crossed beautiful lakes and grasslands. You may see eagles flying over you and you will see alpine newts or otherwise little dragons. If you dare take a swim in the frozen lake, so you can say that you have also done that during this life.

Distance: 8 - 16 km
Hiking time: 5 - 7 hours
Path: O3 or Z3 and Z1 + red marks
Period: Spring until October
Drinking water: hard to find except the Papigo route where you will find 5 sources.
Fauna: wild goat, wolf, vulture, griffon vulture, golden eagle, alpine triton.
Interesting places: the grasslands, the plateaus, the ponds, the vertical slopes, ravines, the unspoiled nature. .

Tsepelovo-Gkamila

If you’re made for big thrills and you like adrenaline, this route is offered for keen hikers. You will cross beautiful grasslands and gorges that will take your breath away. Gkamila is at 2490m

Distance: 16 km
Hiking Time: 7 hours
Path: Z1
Period: May to October
Drinking water: rarely.
Fauna: wild goat, wolf, Eagles.
Interesting places: alpine plateaus, grasslands, gorges.

Monodendri-Vikos or Monodendri-Papigo

Difficult but beautiful, the crossing of Vikos Gorge is recommended for those who want to truly experience the nature of Zagoria, but we suggest you again to find an expert to guide you better. You will cross the junction with the gorge Great Lakkos, the shrine of the Holy Trinity and the sources of the Voidomatis in which you can swim but we inform you that the waters do not exceed 8 degrees Celsius.

Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 6 hours
Path: O3 with good marking
Period: May to October
Drinking water: there are two sources.
Vegetation: oak, sprats, dogwoods, lindens etc.
Fauna: Bear, woodpeckers, Egyptian vulture, golden eagle, nocturnal birds of prey and trout.
Interesting places: the Vikos Gorge, the sources of Voidomatis, unspoiled nature.
Remarks: in case of intense rainfall the unique diode-exit from the gorge to Papigo is pathless.

Papigo-Astraka

You will be impressed by the beautiful alpine scenery and the unspoiled nature as you walk on the top of Astraka at 2436m, but we suggest you again to find an expert to guide you better and if you're beginner you should choose an easier route.

Distance: 5 miles
Hiking Time: 5 hours
Path: O3, packed stones and red marks
Period: May to October
Drinking water: there is only in the beginning of the route.
Vegetation: herbaceous vegetation.
Fauna: birds of prey (golden eagles, vulture, griffon vulture).
Interesting places: the alpine landscape, the slopes, unspoiled nature.
